Frequently Asked Questions About our Sun Protection Shirts
Here are answers to many frequently asked questions about our retail products.
What is UPF? (Ultraviolet Protection Factor):
To cut the threat of cancer, we must reduce sun exposure, therefore the sun protection industry measures the Ultraviolet Protection Factor of fabric using standardized tests. These tests determine the amount of the sun’s ultraviolet radiation that the fabric allows to pass through to the skin. This rating is called UPF or Ultraviolet Protection Factor. Alternatively, SPF or Sun Protection Factor is a rating that is given to liquid sun screens for direct application to the skin. UPF numbers are not equal to SPF numbers.
UVB radiation causes most sun burns. UVA radiation passes further into the skin and is thought to cause the most dangerous cancers like melanoma. It is important that you sunscreen protect you from both UVA and UVB. Therefore look for a broad spectrum sunscreen. Although it may provide effective sun protection, SPF liquid sunscreen has to be re-applied, stains things it comes in contact with, including the boat, your clothing and most fishing gear.
In contrast, long sleeve sun protection shirts with the correct UPF will help protect you all day long, when used with broad spectrum sun screen on exposed areas.
When it comes to the sun, let the shirt do the work.
What is the safest UPF value? First of all, it is advised by the Skin Cancer Foundation that a UPF of 40 to 50 in clothing is excellent protection from the sun’s harmful radiation. Rattlin Jack’s UPF 50+ shirts have the highest rating that can be advertised. Rattlin Jack Long Sleeve UPF Sun Protection Shirts, along with a Rattlin Jack sun mask will easily cut exposure to solar radiation when worn. Combine with a wide brimmed hat, sunglasses and fishing gloves for ultimate safety from UV exposure. Fish as long as you want!

How Do I Order Online and Get The Right Size?
You want to order online, but the size and fit guides have never really helped. Therefore it is hard to find clothes that fit.
Follow these 3 easy steps to get the fit you want from Rattlin Jack®
What is Dye Sublimation?
The process we use to decorate our Rattlin Jack® sun protection shirts is called Dye Sublimation. We literally dye the fabric. We do not use silk screen or vinyl decoration, so there is no rubbery coating that traps heat and sweat. The entire garment is as breathable as before it was decorated.
What is Breathability?
Breathability is the moisture wicking ability of the performance fabric to move sweat away from your skin to guard against rashes. Breathability is measured with a moisture wicking test, where the amount of moisture that the fabric wicks in the shortest amount is measured. The performance fabrics Rattlin Jack® use are among the most breathable fabrics on the market. Because we use dye sublimation to decorate our Performance polyester shirts, the entire shirt is as breathable as before it is decorated.
